Episode 25: Tech Tools

I discuss the software used by designers and tech editors, sharing my knowledge and research into what works and what doesn’t.

  • Text Editors
  • Math/Number crunchers
    • Excel
    • Google Sheets
    • Numbers
  • Document Layout
    • InDesign (20.99 per mth/ or 54.99 per mth for suite)
    • Affinity Publisher 69.99/19.99 for iPad (entire suite on all platforms, Mac, iOS, and Windows 169.99)
    • Some have used presentation software like PowerPoint (Microsoft) or KeyNote (Apple office)
  • PDF readers and annotators
    • Acrobat
    • Preview
    • iAnnotate (have not found it available on MAC, 9.99 iOS)
  • Photo Editing
  • Charting Software
    • Stitchmastery, knit only (Windows, Mac, and Linux: $75)
    • Stitch Fiddle ($2.50 per mth)
    • Stitch Maps, knit only
    • Software I found but can’t talk about since I have no experience with them
    •  iOS only
      • Pattern Craft. 3.99
      • Pattern Maker, free, knit only
      • Knitting iCharts, 2.99
      • Crochet Chart, 8.99 (same people who did Knitting Chart), complaints seem to be around not being able to do straight charts – rows and columns which is allowed in Knitting Chart.
      • CrochetCreator, lots of in-app add ons that cost from .99 to 2.99 and poor reviews
  • Schematics
  • Invoicing/Payment methods

NOTE: for non-Ravelry sources, you can list in the YarnDatabase
